I think the danger of homophily is the problem of presenting one side of an argument. While in science and math, we often know the right answers or backgrounds, this isn't always the case. Dismissing (or not even looking for) the "other side" is a form of ignorance. While it's nice always to be right, it's even better to have a competent discussion.

Let's also be realistic. Not every high school student will use the information they learned from high school science class. But, we can help them learn how to think, reason, and analyze. Those skills can be applied to any class or job in their future.
